JACKSONVILLE, FL --Senior Richard Long was mowing people down on Friday, punching out eight Stetson hitters over six innings of work to help lead the Jacksonville Dolphins over the Hatters 5-2.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Long (4-2) went six shutout innings while giving up three hits and walking three for Jacksonville (12-9, 3-1).
Offensively, the Dolphins were led by junior Nick Delisi, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBI. Freshman Sammy Mummau put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Jonah Shields also chipped in for Jacksonville, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacksonville's offense erupted for five runs in the second inning to take control of the game early. The scoring began with a sacrifice fly from Blake Edmonds to bring home Blake DeLamielleure. Nick DeLisi followed with a two-run double, driving in Cade Hentz and Chandler Howard. Sammy Mummau then added an RBI double to score DeLisi, and Jonah Shields capped off the inning with an RBI single to bring home Mummau, giving the Dolphins a 5-0 lead.
On the mound, Long set the tone before handing it over to the bullpen trio of
Josh Fernald,
Anthony Cordero, and
Nick Anello, who picked up his sixth save of the season. Stetson managed to score twice — once in the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk and again in the ninth on a Jacksonville fielding error — but the Dolphins held firm to secure the 5-2 win.
