JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In JU's first game of the Jacksonville Spring Break Challenge, the Dolphins were defeated by St. John's 5-0.
The loss was JU's fourth in a row, pushing the season record for the 'Phins to 11-9.
Jacksonville had a tough time at the plate against St. John's, tallying just three hits total. Leadoff hitter
Madison Bratek collected two of the team's hits and finished 2-3.
Second baseman
Kiersten Stevens finished 1-3 and stole the team's lone bag on the basepath.
Sophomore
Skylar Waggoner got the starting nod and tossed 3 1/3 innings. Waggoner (3-3) allowed just four hits and one earned run after facing 15 batters.
Reese Wells,
Karson Johnson and
Hailey Strunk followed in the circle. The trio gave up five hits combined with the freshman Strunk tossing a hitless inning.
It took the Red Strom until the fourth inning to strike behind a double to left field. That was all the visitors needed to secure the win.
Jacksonville doesn't get much rest following Thursday night's game, as weather moved up a scheduled Sunday afternoon game into a Friday morning first pitch.
The Dolphins will meet Army at 9 a.m. EST Friday morning at UNF for the first of three games at North Florida to conclude tournament play and the nonconference slate. A contest with Mercer will follow at 2 p.m.
Tournament play concludes with a rematch against Army on Saturday at 2 p.m.
