CARROLLTON, Ga. – Senior Collin Rothermel and senior Blake Barquin teamed up to throw a dominant shutout on Sunday, leading the Jacksonville Dolphins to a 10-0 victory over the West Georgia Wolves. Offensively, senior Blake DeLamielleure had a stellar performance, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs to pace the Dolphins' attack.
Rothermel (5-2) earned the win for Jacksonville (19-16, 9-6), starting the game and throwing four shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five. Barquin came in for relief, earning his first save of the season by tossing three shutout innings, giving up one hit, and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore Conner Spelman got the Dolphins on the board in the second inning with a two-out RBI double. In the third, Jacksonville continued to apply pressure. Josh Steidl delivered a base knock to right field, bringing home Jaden Bastian. Moments later, DeLamielleure followed with a line-drive double to the gap, scoring Jonah Shields and extending the Dolphins' lead to 3-0.
In the top of the fifth inning, Jacksonville extended its lead with a pair of clutch two-RBI singles. First, DeLamielleure singled through the right side, bringing home Bastian and Shields. Shortly after, Carson Stevens followed with a single to right, scoring Steidl and DeLamielleure, pushing the Dolphins' advantage to 7-0.
In the top of the sixth inning, DeLamielleure capped off his standout performance with his fourth hit of the day—a single to right field. The base knock drove in his fourth RBI, bringing home another run and pushing Jacksonville's lead to 8-0.
In the top of the seventh inning, Spelman added the finishing touch to Jacksonville's offensive display with a two-run home run—his third of the season—extending the Dolphins' lead to 10-0. In the bottom half, Barquin returned to the mound and efficiently retired the side, sealing the shutout victory and capping off a dominant performance by the Dolphins.
