Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In the first game of this year's River City Rumble at UNF, the Jacksonville Dolphins fell in 10 innings, 5-4.
JU (20-20, 7-9) never trailed during regulation but eventually fell to a walk-off in the bottom of the 10
th inning, the longest game played this year for the Dolphins and the second nine-plus inning game played against UNF this season.
Behind a two-run first and a lone run scored in the second, the 'Phins took an early commanding lead.
Averi Harcus broke the game open in the first frame with a double to left-center that scored a pair. In the second,
Madison Bratek cranked a single that scored a runner.
In the circle,
Skylar Waggoner (5-7) went the distance, striking out four and allowing seven hits.
With runners on the corners in the bottom of the sixth, Waggoner got the team out of a jam by forcing a lineout to
Jazz Jones at second to end the inning, pushing the game to the final frame.
Haley Fox, who leads the team in batting average (.354), led the team Friday night with a 2-5 showing. Harcus was tops on the squad with a trio of RBIs going 2-5, giving her 21 RBIs this season.
In the top of the 10
th, speed-up runner Bratek was placed on second. Harcus brought Bratek home with a single and JU had the lead once more. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning, a long fly to the warning track sealed the game.
JU has two more cracks at the crosstown rivals, with the series continuing Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m.
