CONWAY, S.C. --- The Jacksonville women's lacrosse team dominated the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Thursday afternoon, 22-10. With the win, JU clinched a spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament.
The Dolphins exploded on offense once again, scoring 20 goals in back-to-back games for the first time since 2023.
The Jacksonville attack was led by junior attacker
Ainsley Scruggs, who scored a career-high six goals. She wasn't the only Dolphin to set new personal bests, though. Sophomore midfielder
Allyx Berry scored a career-high four goals and finished with a career best six points.
Eleven different players found the score sheet, and eight different players finished with multiple points.
Jacksonville raced out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back. Senior attacker
Madison Plitt got on the board first, before the dynamic duo of junior
Olivia Johnson and sophomore
Maeve Brennan took over.Â
Johnson found Brennan for a pair of goals, then sophomore midfielder
Ruby Lynch got on the board. Berry found her groove soon after, scoring her of the night before assisting a pair of Scruggs finishes.
In the dying seconds of the first quarter, sophomore midfielder
Jessica Giller got on the board for the third-straight game to give Jacksonville an 8-2 lead after one.Â
Coastal Carolina scored first in the second, and minutes later the hosts went woman-up. However, the Dolphins weren't swayed. Freshman attacker
Shae Hagans raced by her defender and slotted home her 30th goal of the season despite the player-disadvantage.Â
Hagans' short-handed effort sparked a 5-0 run, with three more Scruggs goals and another Berry bomb pushing the JU lead to 13-3. Sophomore attacker
Maddie Herman assisted Berry's third of the night before spinning past her defender for a goal of her own to take a 15-4 lead into halftime.Â
Berry, Scruggs and Johnson all scored to open the second half, blowing the lead up to 18-4. The Chanticleers added a few goals to the board before sophomore midfielder
Gabby Hendricks scored her third goal of the season and make the score 19-7 with a quarter to play.
The Dolphins closed the fourth quarter with three more goals: Hagans burying her second of the day, Brennan completing her hat-trick and junior attacker
Brigid Manning getting her 10th of the season.
Coastal Carolina added a handful of late goals, but Jacksonville held on for a comfortable win on the Surf Turf.Â
