Long Leads the Way: Dolphins Top West Georgia 3–1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Senior Richard Long was dominant on the mound for Jacksonville Baseball Friday night, allowing just one run over seven strong innings in a 3–1 win over West Georgia.

The solid outing from Long (6-3) earned him the victory on the mound for Jacksonville (24-16, 13-6). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out seven. Junior Anthony Cordero also pitched well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out three.

At the plate, the Dolphins were led by sophomore Jonah Shields, who drove in two runs while going 1-for-4. Senior Blake DeLamielleure added a strong performance of his own, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Sammy Mummau contributed by drawing three walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings, as both starting pitchers worked efficiently through the lineups. West Georgia broke the stalemate in the top of the third, pushing across a run to take a 1-0 lead.

Jacksonville responded in the bottom of the fifth. With two runners aboard, Jonah Shields came through with a two-run single to give the Dolphins the lead.

Senior Blake DeLamielleure followed with an RBI single of his own, extending the advantage to 3-1.

That proved to be all JU needed, as the Dolphins' pitching and defense held strong the rest of the way to secure the win.
