DELAND, Fla. -- Jacksonville Baseball came up short on Thursday, falling to Austin Peay 9-1. Collin Rothermel turned in five solid innings on the mound, but the Governors capitalized on key opportunities with runners in scoring position to pull ahead. Josh Steidl led the way offensively for the Dolphins, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dolphins struck first when senior Blake Delamielleure launched a solo home run to center field in the top of the second.
The two sides remained locked in a close battle through five innings, with both pitching staffs keeping the score tight.
Austin Peay seized control in the sixth, pushing across five runs to break the tie and shift the momentum. The GoVs added insurance in the seventh and eighth, extending their lead to eight.
Jacksonville threatened in the ninth after a double by
Carson Stevens, but the Dolphins left a pair of runners stranded to end the game.
