JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Athletics has set a new academic record for the fourth straight year, breaking the 3.5 GPA threshold to finish with a 3.52 final GPA across the department upon the conclusion of the 2024-25 academic year.
Athletic Director
Alex Ricker-Gilbert highlighted the continued upward rise of the academic standard at Jacksonville saying, "Our student-athletes continue to represent our department in the classroom at historic levels. I am incredibly proud of the hard work done by our students, coaches and staff to accomplish this achievement."
All JU athletic teams finished with a 3.0 GPA or higher for the second time in school history, while nine different teams finished with a program-best semester or academic year GPA.
Of the school's student-athletes, 83% earned a 3.0 or better. The fall semester highlighted the incredible year for the athletes with 64% of student-athletes earning a 3.5, and 42% reaching the 3.75 mark for the semester.
The freshmen class started their collegiate careers on a high note, earning over a 3.5 GPA as a class, setting another new record for the department.
Associate AD of Student-Athlete Services Andy Heston complimented the students and their coaches on the continuous trajectory of academic success in the department.
"I continue to be amazed with what our students produce, every semester," Heston said. "Our coaches have done an amazing job of building rosters with driven, humble, and coachable young people. I am continually inspired with what I see out of our student base. This year, it was extra special to see so many teams earn program records, with consistent contributions throughout a whole roster. I already can't wait to see what our teams can accomplish next, but for now, we'll all take a moment to celebrate this new mark."
Since the fall of 2020, 16 athletic programs have achieved a program record for semester GPA or academic year GPA.
