JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University men's basketball alumnus Dee Brown added to his illustrious sporting resume over the weekend, being inducted into the Jacksonville Sports Hall of Fame.
Brown, already a member of the Jacksonville University Hall of Fame, was honored by the city for his accomplishments as a local student-athlete and ambassador for Duval County.
"I am deeply humbled and honored to be inducted into the Jacksonville Sports Hall of Fame," Brown said. "This recognition represents so much more than my individual journey. It reflects the coaches, teammates, family, mentors and community who have invested in me throughout my life. To be recognized by the city where I was born and raised, while also serving my alma mater Jacksonville University, makes this honor especially meaningful. I hope this recognition inspires our current and future student-athletes to pursue excellence, lead with character and always find ways to give back to the community that supports them."
A member of the 2008 Dolphin Hall of Fame class, Brown led JU on the hardwood from 1987-1990, finishing his career with over 1,500 points scored and his jersey forever enshrined in the rafters of Swisher Gymnasium. He went on to be selected with the 19th pick in the 1990 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, later winning the 1991 Slam Dunk Competition with his famous no-look dunk.
He served as an NBA and WNBA executive before returning to Jacksonville University to work in the athletics office as an administrator and has now been recognized by the city he helped put on the national stage with another Hall of Fame honor.
"What a deserving honor for Dee Brown to be named to the Jacksonville Sports Hall of Fame," said Senior Vice President and Athletic Director Alex Ricker-Gilbert. "Dee left JU with a Hall of Fame legacy, went on to the NBA and has come back to Jacksonville to be a tremendous ambassador for our university and athletic programs. He is a walking legend around the city and we are all extremely excited for his newest accomplishment."
As part of the 2026 Jacksonville Sports Hall of Fame, Brown was inducted alongside former Jaguars coach and executive Tom Coughlin, Olympian and artist Dottie Dorion and Jumbo Shrimp mascot Scampi.
