Jacksonville Loses 2-1 in Season Opener to GCU

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Jacksonville came up one goal short against Grand Canyon 2-1 Thursday (Aug. 21) on the road at GCU Stadium.

How it Happened

Both sides were quiet offensively in the first half but came alive after a lengthy weather delay. Jacksonville started the scoring when Logan Hall scored the first JU goal of the season in the 71st minute, assisted by Juan Pablo Gonzalez.

The Antelopes evened the game on a goal from Junior Diouf in the 80th minute.

Grand Canyon then grabbed a 2-1 lead on Diouf's 89th-minute goal, assisted by Ben Assane Fall. The 2-1 score held for the final 30 seconds to give GCU a 1-0 start to the season.

Game Notes

  • Logan Hall's goal was the first of his career.
  • Weather delayed the second half start by two hours.
