CORAL GABLES, Fla. – In a game complete with a two-hour weather delay, the Jacksonville Dolphins slugged it out with the University of Miami, ultimately falling 1-0.
The Dolphins (2-1-0) and the Hurricanes played about as close as two teams could all day. With clear skies in the first half, the score was tied 0-0. Both teams had just one corner each in the first 45 minutes and JU narrowly led in shots, 3-2.
With wet, slippery conditions in the second half, Miami took a slight advantage and found a seam in the 54th minute for the game's only goal. In terms of shots, Miami led 3-1 in the game's final 45 minutes.
Jacksonville finished with four total shots, one each from Frida Johansson, Laura Di Mascio, Paula Herranz and Olivia Peal. Peal finished with the team's only shot on goal after playing 46 minutes.
In the waning two minutes of the game, Jacksonville had a handful of chances in the box but couldn't get past the Miami defense for the equalizer.
With 60 seconds to play, the combined defensive efforts of Samantha Sharrocks and Julia Delprat kept the score at its final. In the net, Pia Bozic made two saves.
JU will stay on the road for its next contest, an Aug. 31 date at Troy University. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
