Offense Continues to Propel Jacksonville in Win at South Carolina State

ORANGEBURG, S.C., -- The Jacksonville University offensive output was at it again Wednesday night in a tilt at South Carolina State, with the 'Phins winning 6-0.

It has been 11 days since the Dolphins last allowed a goal. In that frame, the Dolphins have won their last three games by a combined score of 17-0.

Jacksonville has never lost a contest with South Carolina State and got ahead in the team's most recent meeting early. In the third minute, Laura Di Mascio found paydirt to put her team ahead. Di Mascio's goal represents the third straight week JU has scored in the first 10 minutes and was the team's second quickest goal of the year.

Only two minutes later, Layla Garcia-Moreno found the net for her first goal of the evening. In the 27th, Garcia-Moreno found the net again for an opening half brace.

Between goals from the graduate transfer from SMU, Alicia Rey Perez continued her scoring with her eighth of the year in the 12th minute. That goal furthered Rey Perez's hold atop the ASUN's list for goal scorers.

To close out the first half, Juliette Lucas netted one in the 43rd minute. Lucas' goal was fourth of the year and her second in three games.

Up 5-0 at half, JU didn't look back as Garcia-Moreno notched a hat trick in the 62nd minute. It was her first hat trick as a Dolphin and Jacksonville's first of the year.

The sixth goal of the night was Jacksonville's final, and the team's last non-conference goal of the season.

In net, freshman Athena Zuluri got the start and went 70 minutes, making one save. In relief during the final 20 minutes of play, sophomore Kathryn Shaggy minded the net in her second game this year, making one save.

Up next for JU is a trip to rival UNF for the first women's soccer River City Rumble of the year. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28 and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
