Jacksonville Drops ASUN Opener Against Ospreys

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University men's soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to rival North Florida in the ASUN Conference opener at Southern Oak Stadium on Friday night. The decisive goal came late in the first half of a hard-fought contest between the two River City rivals.

The Ospreys (7-3-0, 1-0-0 ASUN) broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. North Florida substitute forward Jaxon Reinhardt (UNF) found the back of the net at the 36:51 mark, converting an assist from midfielder Jaylen Yearwood (UNF) to give the visitors the only score they would need.

Despite trailing, the Dolphins (2-5-1, 0-1-0 ASUN) dominated the offensive possession throughout the evening, finishing the match with a 10-5 advantage in total shots. Jacksonville tested UNF goalkeeper Luciano Natoli repeatedly in the first half, forcing him to make five critical saves to preserve the clean sheet. Jacksonville's best chances came in the first period, including shots on goal by Felix Kogler, Leonardo Davi C Santos, and Christian Wahlstrøm, all denied by Natoli.

The second half saw both sides ramp up the physicality, resulting in three yellow cards, two for the Dolphins and one for the Ospreys. Jacksonville continued to press for the equalizer, but the UNF defense held firm, limiting JU to just two total shots in the second 45 minutes.

The Numbers
