JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In a hard-fought slugfest against visiting Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville fell 3-2. The loss moved the Dolphins to 2-3 on the season after three straight losses in nonconference play.
The Owls struck in the first minute to take an early lead. Ten minutes later FAU took a 2-0 lead. But the lead didn't last long.
In the 25
th minute, JU flipped the script and netted a goal behind the swift feet of
Alicia Rey Perez. In the 41
stminute, the Dolphins found the back of the net once more with an equalizer goal from
Layla Garcia-Moreno. Rey Perez got the assist on the goal, her second game with a goal and assist at home this season.
At the halftime break, the score remained at a 2-2 tie.
After halftime, FAU broke the tie with a goal in the 59
th minute that ended up as the game winner.
By game's end, Jacksonville collected eight total shots. Rey Perez led the Dolphin contingency with two shots.
In net,
Pia Bozic made five total saves. Her five saves tied a season high.
Jacksonville saw
Madelyn Radtke appear for the first time this season after dealing with a lower body injury. The junior played 17 minutes in her first action.
Freshman forward
Julia Delprat got the start at home and played 69 minutes. Fellow freshman
Frida Johansson started her fifth game this season, playing a season-high 80 minutes.
Jacksonville remains at home and is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 13 against Florida International. The game will serve as senior night for JU's seven seniors and two graduates. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
