JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Dolphins suffered a home loss Thursday night to Queens, 77-51, in the team's first conference home game of the season.
The defeat moved JU to 5-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play after road losses to Lipscomb and Austin Peay. Thursday's game was the sixth loss in a row for the Dolphins and the team's first home loss since Feb. 1 of last season.
Jacksonville couldn't find its stroke for most of the night, shooting 36.5 from the field and 4-19 from deep. Guard
Jaylen Jones led the team with 11 points and three assists. Jones' double-digit scoring night was his ninth of the year and second straight in ASUN play.
Donovan Rivers was second on the team with eight points and four boards.
JU narrowly won the battle of the boards against the visiting Royals, 32-30, led by a game-high eight rebounds from
Jason Thirdkill Jr. Thirdkill stuffed the stat sheet with seven points to go along with four blocks and two steals.
Thirdkill has opened conference play with eight total blocks. He is third overall in the ASUN in total blocks with 18.
Hayden Wood and
Enrico Borio joined Thirdkill with two steals each, part of an eight steal night by the home squad.
Head coach
Jordan Mincy's team saw a few players appear for the first time in a handful of games, including
Jaylen Jordon logging his first minutes since Dec. 11. Jordon finished his night with four points and two boards.
Michael Harper Jr. and
Lamont Jackson also saw action, logging six minutes and one minute respectively. The 'Phins were without the services however of
Chris Arias, who was dealing with an injury.
The Dolphins return to action Saturday afternoon to face the West Georgia Wolves. JU and UWG square off at 3 p.m. EST with the contest being broadcast on ESPN+. Saturday's game also serves as the squad's Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Florida celebration game.
