Dolphins Earn Draw In Charlotte With Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Jacksonville Dolphins were the aggressor once again in conference play, ripping 25 shots and 13 shots on goal against the Queens Royals Thursday night. Only one of those shots found nylon, as JU drew with the hosts, 1-1.

Jacksonville moved to 3-3-4 on the season with a 1-0-2 record in ASUN play. Thursday's game was the first of the season where the Dolphins found a road draw, with an overall road record now of 0-3-1.

Jacksonville controlled the entire game with nine shots and three shots on goal at halftime. Led by the program's rock steady defense on the opposite end, Queens didn't put a shot up the entire first 45 minutes.

But it was Queens that shockingly scored first. On the team's first shot of the night, JU keeper Sofia Mosquera stopped a shot with her gloves, but the ensuing ricochet bounced right to the foot of a Royals attacker who punched it through.

Down a score, it took Jacksonville till the 60th minute to even the game. Jacksonville was fouled in the box which drew a penalty kick for the 'Phins. Paula Herranz took the penalty, which found the mitts of the Queens keeper.

It was then JU's time to score on a ricochet, as Millie Urquhart powered the bouncing ball right past the nearside arm of the goal tender to even the score.

Jacksonville's 25 total shots were its third most this season and most in ASUN play. It was the second straight ASUN game where JU registered 20-plus shots. JU's 13 total shots on goal were its most against a D1 opponent this season.

Julia Delprat finished six shots and a trio on target, sailing one attempt a soccer ball's height above the cross bar for a potential winning move. Saki Sanno launched five shots herself, with a team-high four shots on target.

Herranz led the game with her seven shots, three of which were on net. She earned the assist on Urquhart's goal, the first goal of the year for Urquhart and the second assist of the year for Herranz.

In net, Mosquera made a single save in her second consecutive ASUN start. The graduate keeper owns a record of 1-0-1 on the season.

The road trip for JU marches on as the Dolphins travel back to Florida to face off with ASUN newcomer West Florida. Jacksonville squares off with the Argonauts for the first time as a Division 1 school on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. The game is the second of JU's five-game road swing.
