Men's Rowing

Jacksonville Places Sixth At The Head Of The Charles

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Jacksonville's varsity four returned to the crowded waters of the Charles River for a defense of one of the top prizes in program history. After winning the men's collegiate 4+ last year, the Dolphins placed in a strong sixth place this year.

"Tough time getting 6th overall after a banner result last year, but the guys gave their all the entire race, Mason held a strong line, and came back with the nothing left," head coach Preston Weinard. "That's exactly what we need. If we keep building on that effort and use this result as fuel for the rest of the fall, the results we aim for will start to come! Huge kudos to the top placers, especially Stetson for the win. Always good to see a Florida team on top!"

Jacksonville's crew placed above the likes of Texas, UCLA and Michigan in their finish. In the final race, the Dolphins raced in 16:30.272. Jacksonville finished more than three seconds clear of the next-best finisher, and just over 17 seconds back of first place.

In last season's championship-winning race, the Dolphins posted a 16:03.662 time to set a course record which still stands after this year's edition of the race.

Jacksonville will race one more time this fall at the Head of the Further South, hosted by Stetson on Nov. 14. This upcoming weekend is also the Dolphins' Row Across Florida annual event to celebrate homecoming weekend.
