Jacksonville Hosts Queens and West Florida For Homecoming Weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It's homecoming weekend on the campus of Jacksonville University, and the Dolphins volleyball team is joining the celebrations with a pair of marquee conference match-ups on home court.

It starts Friday night against the Queens Royals at 6 PM for Professor Appreciation Night and continues with Saturday's Pink Out match against the West Florida Argonauts.

Jacksonville sits at 3-3 in Atlantic Sun Conference play through the first half of the league season. This past weekend, the Dolphins took reigning regular season champions FGCU to five sets before earning a win over in-state foes Stetson in another five-set battle.

JU has been led by senior setter Jade Cuya Cobos in the last two weeks of ASUN play. Playing as a lone setter, Cuya Cobos has recorded three-straight assist-dig double-doubles and recorded a career-high 58 assists in the win over Hatters.

She's helped keep hot performances from graduate student Abbie Tuyo (19 kills against Stetson) and freshman Jaylyn Tuaisosopo (named ASUN Freshman of the Week). Junior middle blocker Haley Yount has come alive on offense as well, recording double-digit kills for the first time this season in back-to-back matches.

The Dolphins find themselves in fifth place in the ASUN standings entering this week. Jacksonville is a game back of North Florida in fourth place and a half game ahead of the Bellarmine Knights, who JU defeated in four sets earlier this fall.

vs. Queens | Friday Oct. 23 | 6 PM ET | ESPN+
Record: 9-16 (2-5 ASUN)
Head Coach: Matt Stolz (2nd Season)
Players To Watch: RS Emma Norris, OH Elizabeth Layson, OH Callie DeSchryver

Two weeks ago, Queens took the Dolphins to the wire in a five-set thriller up in Charlotte. Jacksonville won the battle, though, winning thanks to 12-kill days from Tuiasosopo and sophomore Kathryn Adler.

Jacksonville has won seven-straight matches over the Royals and all but one contest since Queens moved to the ASUN in 2022.

vs. West Florida | Saturday Oct, 24 | 5 PM ET | ESPN+
Record: 14-5 (4-1 ASUN)
Head Coach: Melissa Wolter (24th Season)
Players To Watch: MB Delaney Hanowell, L Maddie Mire, OH Emily Breazeale

The Dolphins were originally set for their inaugural match against the Argonauts two weeks ago, but Hurricane Isaias postponed that match in Pensacola to Nov. 11. Now, JU will get to welcome its new conference mates to Swisher Gymnasium for the first time ever.

West Florida hasn't taken long to adjust to life in Division I. The Argonauts currently lead the ASUN standings at 4-1. They also showed well in non-conference play, winning matches against Big 12 side Texas Tech and reigning ASUN Tournament champions Central Arkansas.
