FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Jacksonville Dolphins fell in three sets (20-25, 18-25, 17-25) to the FGCU Eagles Sunday afternoon. The Dolphins (10-14, 4-6) were led by graduate student
Abbie Tuyo who tallied a team-best 10 kills.
Set One
Tuyo was electric in the opening set to lead a high-flying JU offense. She hit .545 in the opening set, ending the first with six kills, half of Jacksonville's 12 team kills in the first. The Dolphins trailed 11-3 early, but they fought to make it a competitive set.
Back-to-back Tuyo kills cut the deficit to three, 18-21, late. However, FGCU took four of the next six points to win the opener.
Set Two
The second set was closer early on. Freshman
Jaylyn Tuiasosopo recorded a kill to cut the deficit to 13-10 in the first half of the set. Tuiasosopo started to get hot in the second, notching three kills while hitting .600.
FGCU pulled ahead midway through the set, leading by as many as nine before ending with a seven-point set win.
Set Three
Jacksonville continued to rely on Tuiasosopo who added four kills on 11 swings, both team highs for the set. She was complemented by junior
Haley Yount (three kills at .750) and sophomore
Zoey Vandel (three kills at .222).
A JU block cut the deficit to 19-15, but FGCU would pull away for a 25-17 win to close out the straight-sets win.
