JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Sophomore guard
Mychal White took the ball up court with seconds left in the third quarter. She launched up a 3-point runner, hoping to steal one before the fourth quarter. Her shot banked off the glass as the buzzer sounded, finding the net on a night where nothing could go wrong for the Jacksonville Dolphins.
The Dolphins (19-7, 11-4 ASUN) defeated the Queens Royals 84-49 Thursday night in Swisher Gymnasium. Jacksonville has won eight games in a row, tying the program's longest winning streak since 2018.
"We're just resilient," assistant coach Shenneika Smith said. "We're putting it together, and [our team] is having a lot of fun."
Jacksonville was led by graduate student guard
Priscilla Williams. She scored a team-high 25 points, her sixth game this season with 25 or more points.
The Royals kept it close much of the first quarter, but the Dolphins still had the edge early. After a missed Queens shot, senior
Makiya Miller was wide-open on the other end for an easy layup to put JU up 7-2 at the first media timeout.
Queens cut the lead to as close as one point, but Jacksonville went on a late run to field a comfortable lead in the first. With 1.1 seconds on the clock, sophomore
Mychal White rolled down the court and sent up a running 3-pointer.
While her shot missed, she drew a foul on the action. Three made free throws later, the Dolphins had a 16-10 lead after the first period of play. From then on, Jacksonville went into overdrive.
The Dolphins raced off a 9-2 run to start the quarter, with Williams burying a pair of pull-up jumpers. After the Royals called timeout, Queens briefly stopped the bleeding with a bucket, but it was only temporary.
Williams stared down the defense and nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing to put JU up 30-15. Sophomore
Mariah Knight exploded down the stretch, scoring seven points on her own in the final 2:19 of the first half.
The third quarter was more of the same, with the Dolphins ripping passes through the seams of the defense for open buckets. White slipped a pass to sophomore
Comari Mitchell for a quick layup, then two possessions later, she fooled the defense to find Knight cutting inside for another basket, putting the Dolphins up 56-26.
Williams reached 20-plus points once again, scoring a pair of free throws then nailing another 3-pointer. With the clock ticking away, White once again launched up a running 3-pointer, but this time she didn't need the foul, drilling the shot to put JU up 70-35 through three.
Jacksonville took care of business in the fourth quarter, with freshman
Aniah Smith leading the way with eight points in the final period.

Assistant Coach Shenneika Smith
On beating teams twice in a season
"We play our game. We focus on ourselves and make sure we do what we need to do. Defensively, we focus on the little things. But it's not easy to beat a team twice, now. But we're at home and we feel comfortable at home. And like I said, we're just having a lot of fun right now."
On Mychal White's performance
"She's finding her way. She's had some tough ones, and sometimes with kids they'll stay down, but she's been in the gym getting extra shots up and tonight her teammates allowed her to do what she does today."
