Miller Ties Career High In River City Rumble Win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Jacksonville Dolphins ended the regular season with a rivalry win over the North Florida Ospreys, 79-71 at Swisher Gymnasium.

On her senior day, guard Makiya Miller tied her career high with a team-best 22 points. She also tied a career high with five assists and grabbed five rebounds to propel the Dolphins to their 21st victory of the season. 

Jacksonville led the entire first half, though the game was a tight battle. The first quarter was a defensive struggle, as the Dolphins held the Ospreys to just nine points for the game.

Miller got the offense rolling a bit in the second, drilling a triple to put Jacksonville up 26-20. She turned facilitator, dishing it off to junior Sharmela Reid for two more points. Freshman Tatum Brown scored a pair from the free throw line to put JU up 30-24 at the half.

UNF took its first lead of the day with 5:13 to play in the third quarter. Freshman guard Aniah Smith scored a pair of layups, book ending an effort from junior Carmaya Bowman, to flip the script and tie the game at 41.

Miller got to the hoop and finished with a tough reverse to put the Dolphins back in front. The Ospreys cut the deficit to one before Smith and Miller both cashed in triples. Jacksonville led by as many as seven before a late North Florida 3-pointer cut the lead to four.

The Dolphins started hot in the fourth, racing off three-straight buckets to take an 11-point lead. The Ospreys temporarily stopped the run with a layup of their own, but then Miller scored two and found graduate student Priscilla Williams for two more.

Junior Bailey Burns got to the hoop for a layup, then Williams drove to the cup. She finished through traffic and converted the and-one to take a 13-point lead.

After late fouls, the Dolphins were down to four players on the court in the final minutes of the game. Miller closed the game out strong for Jacksonville, scoring six points in her last 66 seconds at Swisher Gymnasium to close out the victory.

Game Notes
The Dolphins finished the season 21-8. This is JU's winningest season since 2017-18 and tied for the fifth-most wins in a season with a postseason to play.
Jacksonville's 13 conference wins is the most since 2007-08.
Four Dolphins scored in double figures (Miller, Williams, Smith and Burns).
With other results around the conference, JU secured the No. 2 seed in the ASUN Tournament.
