Dolphins Drop Sunday Rubber Match

Move to 9-3 Overall

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jacksonville fell in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon as UAB pulled away for a 9-3 win to claim the series. The Dolphins move to 9-3 on the season.

UAB struck early with a five-run fifth inning to create separation, capitalizing on timely hits and extended at-bats. The Blazers finished with nine runs on nine hits and drew 11 walks in the contest.

Jacksonville had life in the ninth inning. Cade Walter provided a big swing, launching a three-run homer over the batter's eye in center to score Clayton Hodges and Blake Edmonds, trimming the deficit to six.

Walter finished 2-4 with three RBI to lead the Dolphins offensively. He currently leads the team in home runs with six, and is climbing the RBI ranks with 20.  Abdriel Delgado led JU with three hits, while Jonah Shields and Derek Bermudez each added a hit of their own.

On the mound, Brendan Holland worked 3.1 innings in the start, allowing two runs, one earned. Kyle Hopper and Ben Baker-Livingston combined for 2.2 innings of relief, while Brodie Scott and Ayden Phillips rounded out the afternoon on the hill.

UAB was led by Brady Waugh (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI), Alex Dupuy (two doubles), and Baylor Roberts (2 RBI). The Blazers added a solo homer in the eighth to extend their lead before JU's late push.

Despite the loss, the Dolphins flashed some impressive leather in the early innings.

In the bottom of the first, Walter caught a foul ball on a perfectly executed slide to steal an out for the Dolphins.

Soon after, Roger Vergara used a glove flip to retire a speedy Blazer.
