CARROLLTON, Ga. — JU Baseball dropped game two of the three-game series versus West Georgia on Saturday afternoon, 4-1. The loss gives the Wolves the series win in Jacksonville's first ASUN contest of the season.
Payton Waters delivered a strong outing on the mound, allowing just two earned runs across 6.2 innings while surrendering four hits, walking one and striking out four. Three of the Wolves' runs came in the third inning, including one that scored on an error, but Waters settled in afterward and kept Jacksonville within striking distance for the remainder of the afternoon.
Freshman Kyler Hopper closed out the seventh unscathed, while
Scout Updike pitched the eighth inning, giving up a run but striking out the side.
The five total runs scored in Saturday's game stemmed from just nine combined hits, with five from the Wolves and four from the Dolphins.
Three of West Georgia's four runs came from two swings of the bat, a Gabe Wuerth two-RBI double in the third inning and a solo home run by David Bell in the eighth.
Jacksonville left three runners in scoring position during the contest. Their lone run came in the fifth inning when
Archer Ogbourne doubled to left field, allowing
Sammy Mummau to come around to score from first following an errant throw over the catcher's head.
