JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville dropped the series finale to North Florida, 12-6, on Sunday afternoon at John Sessions Stadium.
North Florida struck early and never trailed, plating a run in the first before extending the lead with a two-run homer in the third. The Ospreys added another long ball in the fifth and broke the game open with a two-run sixth and two-run seventh to build an 8-0 advantage.Â
Jacksonville found life in the seventh, putting together its most productive inning of the day. The Dolphins scored four runs in the frame, highlighted by RBI knocks from
Sam Grunberg,
Conner Spelman and
Sammy Mummau, while Nick Delisi added a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit in half.Â
North Florida responded immediately, however, tacking on four runs in the eight to push the lead back to eight and regain control.Â
The Dolphins added two more in the ninth on a two-run single from Mummau, but the late push wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.Â
Mummau led the way offensively with a multi-hit performance and three RBIs, while Grunberg continued his consistent stretch at the plate, recording a hit in six of his last seven games.
On the mound,
Brendan Holland took the loss, allowing four runs over five innings.
Dominic Pieto and
Austin Williamson combined for the bulk of the relief work.Â
Jacksonville will look to bounce back as it heads into midweek action in Gainesville on Tuesday, followed by a Thursday-Saturday home series against the Stetson Hatters.Â
