Going Dancing: Dolphins Win First ASUN Championship In Ten Years

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- For just the second time in program history, the Jacksonville University women's basketball team is going dancing.

The Dolphins won the Atlantic Sun Championship 66-63 in overtime over the eight-seed Austin Peay Governors Monday night at Jacksonville's VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. The win caps off a historic moment for the program and secures a bid in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.

This is Jacksonville's second-ever ASUN championship. The Dolphins last cut down the nets in 2015-16 under head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin. The win also tied the winningest season in school history, matching a 24-9 record in 2017-18.

The win is Jacksonville University's sixth ASUN team sports championship since 2020. It's the Dolphins first since Women's Lacrosse raised the trophy following the 2023 season.

With their bid to March Madness, the Dolphins will make their second appearance in the big dance. Last time out, Jacksonville earned a 16 seed in the Sioux Falls regional. The Dolphins battled Dawn Staley and the No. 1 seed South Carolina Gamecocks in the first round.
