CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The red-hot Jacksonville Dolphins continued their hot form this season with another series sweep in league play. JU (26-15, 11-4 ASUN) defeated the Queens Royals 8-0 Sunday, capping off a perfect weekend in the Queen City.
Jacksonville has won nine of its last 10 games, securing four conference series wins on the trot.
The Dolphins were led by sophomore pitcher Jacey Harrelson who started her second game of the weekend. She went six innings, allowing no runs on five hits, adding a pair of strikeouts.Â
She picks up her team-leading 15th win of the season in the circle. Over 13 innings pitched this weekend, she allowed just two total runs.
Jacksonville was led by a balanced group of hitters, as six different Dolphins notched a hit on the day. Freshman
Jaida Thomas brought the power, smashing her fourth home run of her rookie season.
Junior
Reese Wells was JU's top batter on the day, recording a season-high three hits.
Neither team could wake up the bats early Sunday afternoon. The sides traded scoreless frames for the first four innings of the game before JU struck the first blow.Â
The Dolphins put a pair of runners on in the top of the fifth, before freshman
Vic Brunette singled into left field to bring around the first runner of the day. Wells popped a single into center to bring two more 'Phins across home plate.
With Wells on first, Thomas sent a long ball over the left field fence to cap off a five-run fifth inning for the Dolphins. As Harrelson continued to deal scoreless frames, Jacksonville added three more runs in the top of the seventh.
An error at first base allowed Wells to come all the way around from first to score. With two runners on, graduate student
Sarah Beth Brake knocked a single into center to bring in the runners and get JU to eight runs.
The Dolphins turned the circle over to freshman
Margaret Jenkins who forced three outs to secure the team shutout for JU.
