JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Another Jacksonville Dolphin has picked up Atlantic Sun honors this season, as junior defender
Jaxie Cestone was named co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Cestone was a top contributor for the Dolphins this past week, helping anchor a defense that allowed 7.5 goals per game over a strong two-game stretch. The junior from Kings Park, New York, was the most productive JU defender on the stat sheet, totaling four ground balls and four cased turnovers over two games.
Against No. 15 Colorado, Cestone scooped a pair of ground balls and caused a turnover. In a 21-5 blowout win over Austin Peay, Cestone added two more ground balls and set a new career-high with three caused turnovers.
This has been a breakout season for the third-year defender. Cestone has started all 13 games this season, the first 13 starts of her career. She's already tallied double-digit ground balls (16) and caused turnovers (13) this season, ranking third on the team in both categories.
Cestone and the Dolphins will play a pair of games this week, starting with a trip to face Top 10 Florida Wednesday at 4 PM. Jacksonville will get back to the ASUN grind Saturday as it hosts Lindenwood at 12 PM for Senior Day at Rock Stadium.
