JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After two seasons atop Jacksonville University's starting rotation, Alex Walsh has earned his opportunity in professional baseball.
Walsh has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, becoming the first Dolphin to sign a professional contract since Collin Rothermel was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 16th round of the 2025 MLB Draft.
The signing comes after an impressive summer in which Walsh participated in a private workout with the Dodgers in mid-June before joining the Williamsport Crosscutters of the MLB Draft League. The veteran left-hander made three appearances, totaling nine innings, as he continued to showcase his abilities in front of Major League scouts.
A steady presence at the front of Jacksonville's rotation, Walsh capped his senior season as one of the ASUN Conference's top pitchers. The right-hander earned Third Team All-ASUN honors, was named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year and collected ASUN Pitcher of the Week recognition following a dominant outing against Queens in which he tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out a season-high eight batters.
Walsh finished the 2026 campaign with an 8-3 record and a 3.91 ERA across 15 starts, logging 73.2 innings while striking out 74 batters. He ranked among the ASUN's leaders in nearly every major pitching category, tying for third in wins while finishing eighth in ERA and strikeouts, ninth in innings pitched, 10th in opponent batting average (.253) and third in strikeouts looking.
The lefty arrived at Jacksonville prior to the 2025 season after previous stops at Miami and Florida SouthWestern. During his first season with the Dolphins, he earned ASUN All-Academic Team honors after posting a 3.99 ERA across 67.2 innings while ranking among the conference leaders in opponent batting average and hits allowed.
His breakout senior campaign solidified his status as Jacksonville's ace, earning preseason All-ASUN recognition from Perfect Game before living up to those expectations throughout the spring.

Walsh officially signed with the Dodgers on July 21, becoming the latest Dolphin to continue Jacksonville's tradition of developing talent for the professional ranks.
