JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville men's soccer team outshot Georgia Southern on Friday night, but two early goals proved to be the difference in a 2-0 loss at Southern Oak Stadium.
The defeat was the first of the season for the Dolphins, who moved to 2-1.
Georgia Southern opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Lior Holtz found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Broden Beorlegui doubled the advantage less than two minutes later, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the 15th minute.
Jacksonville began to settle into the match as the opening half continued. Iver Skorve recorded the Dolphins' first attempt before Quinten Koster generated three shots over the final 14 minutes of the period.
The Dolphins came out of halftime on the front foot. Emanuel Cappello and Leonardo Davi C Santos forced saves from Georgia Southern goalkeeper Nicolas Aristizabal within the first five minutes of the second half.
Jacksonville continued applying pressure after the break. Davi C Santos placed another attempt on target in the 69th minute before Diego Valles tested Aristizabal less than two minutes later, but the Eagles' goalkeeper kept both efforts out.
The Dolphins held Georgia Southern without a shot for the entire second half and finished with a 9-5 advantage in total attempts. However, Jacksonville was unable to erase the early deficit.
