Dolphins Fall 1-0 at FIU

MIAMI, Fla – Jacksonville University women's soccer fell 1-0 to FIU on Sunday at FIU Soccer Stadium.

The Dolphins (1-3-2) outshot the Panthers 5-3 in the second half, but a goal in the closing seconds of the first half proved to be the difference.

Julia Delprat nearly put Jacksonville ahead in the fourth minute, sending a shot off the right post. Taylor Gardner made her first save in the eighth minute, stopping an attempt from Kelsi Hart to keep the match scoreless.

FIU broke through with five seconds remaining before halftime when Yuzu Tanida scored to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead at the break.

Jacksonville created several opportunities early in the second half, recording three shots and three corner kicks in the opening nine minutes. Claudia Perez Avila had two of those attempts, while Lilian Carhart added one.

Madelyn Radtke and Frida Johansson each registered a shot midway through the half. Gardner added her second save in the 67th minute to keep Jacksonville within a goal, but the Dolphins were unable to find the equalizer.

Perez Avila led Jacksonville with two shots. Gardner finished with two saves across 90 minutes, while the Dolphins earned all five of their corner kicks in the second half.
