Brandon Bednar joined Jacksonville University baseball as its Volunteer Assistant Coach in January of 2021. Bednar joins the Dolphins after a six-year professional career, with an innate understanding of baseball in the ASUN Conference.
Â
Bednar played his college ball at FGCU, earning unanimous ASUN All-First Team honors in 2013 as a junior infielder after leading the team in batting average, RBI, doubles and three more offensive categories that season. His performance his sophomore year, in which he started all 57 games and showcased his versatility by playing all four infield spots and batting in the 1-6 spots in the order throughout the season, earned him plenty of preseason recognition from a variety of publications. He was named to the AUN All-Tournament team his sophomore year after going 9-15, leading the tournament in batting average and collecting an FGCU tournament record six RBI.
Â
His standout junior campaign got him drafted in the seventh round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants. This started his professional journey, where he climbed as high as Double A with the Giants organization in 2017, before spending 2018 with the Double A clubs of both the Phillies and the Rockies. He wrapped his professional career in 2019 after a brief stint in Independent League baseball. He is a career .269 hitter in six minor league seasons in which he played 599 total games, logging time at all four infield positions.
Â
Bednar hails originally from Stuart, Fla., where he was a standout for the South Fork High School baseball team that captured the 2009 Class 5A State Championship and finished runner-up the year before.
