Matthew Shimko joined the Jacksonville Athletic Department in October 2023 as an Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant. He is studying to obtain his Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership.
Shimko joins the Jacksonville Athletic staff after completing an internship with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp where he worked in the front office as a member of the sales department. He had a variety of experiences working, having experience in operations and media as well.
Before working for the Jumbo Shrimp, Shimko attended Monmouth College where he played football. During his time at Monmouth, Shimko was a member of two conference champion teams in 2019 and 2022 with the Fighting Scots. In 2019 he earned “Newcomer of the Year” in the Scots football program. In 2021 and 2022, Shimko was nominated to the Midwest All-Conference team and named Team Captain in 2022. At Monmouth, he studied Exercise Science and Sports Management and volunteered with the Monmouth Athletic Department and local community athletic programs.
Shimko was born and raised here in Jacksonville, FL, where he attended Mandarin High School and played football. He was a four-year varsity athlete on the team and was Team Captain of the 2018 8A State Championship Team. Shimko earned All-Distract honors in his Junior and Senior years. He was also a part of the Student Athlete Leadership Team.
Shimko is the son of Michael Shimko and Stacy Hathaway. He has three siblings, Ashleigh, JJ, and his twin Michael.
