Ramon Rivas

Rivas is serving as a graduate assistant who brings a wealth of knowledge to the JU basketball program. He previously worked in the same role for the Florida Gators, but made his way to Jacksonville after the hiring of Jordan Mincy. 

The Puerto Rico native competed in college basketball at North Georgia, where he averaged 15 points and 9 rebounds per game, tabbing him in a top three spot for number of rebounds in the Peach Belt conference. Rivas has played professionally in Spain, Argentina and Mexico. His notable accomplishments include; being a member of the Puerto Rican National Team, participating in the Americup and World Cup Qualifier, and later qualifying for the World Cup. 

Before his collegiate career, Rivas averaged 17 points and nine rebounds per game as a senior at Olympia High School for coach Mark Griseck. He was a member of the all-district squad and was named team MVP, while also serving as team captain his senior year.

Rivas is the son of Juan Rivas and Iris Castillo. His father played professional basketball for the Boston Celtics and is the Spanish broadcaster for the Orlando Magic and Olympic Games.
