Alex Kerstetter was elevated to Assistant AD for Athletic Communications in December 2023. He enters his second year at JU in 2024.
During his time at Jacksonville thus far, Kerstetter has overseen media relation efforts for men's basketball men's lacrosse, women's soccer and men's and women's rowing. Kerstetter acts as the liaison between Gemstone Media and JU and helps oversee all things that have to do with broadcast.
Kerstetter came from Longwood University, where he served as the assistant director of athletic communications for one year. During his time with the Lancers, he acted as the primary contact for baseball, men's soccer, men's golf, and men's and women's tennis. Additionally, he served as a secondary contact for both men's and women's basketball, and he played a lead role as a statistician during both programs' first Big South Championship seasons.
While at Longwood, Kerstetter played a significant role in orchestrating the communication department's first internship program. As part of the program, Longwood students gained valuable experience in athletic communications, learning tasks such as managing social media for the Lancers' athletic programs, creating graphics, and providing statistical support during games. They also developed skills in writing press releases and feature stories. Kerstetter was responsible for creating the interns' work schedules, collaborating with students to ensure they met graduation requirements, and providing unique opportunities for them to work with the specific needs of different programs.
Before joining Longwood, Kerstetter interned at his alma mater, The University of Findlay, where he gained his first exposure to Athletic Communications. During his time there, he closely worked with the communications staff, acquiring knowledge in different statistical software, press release writing, and day-to-day operations.
As a student at Findlay, Kerstetter played on the men's soccer team for four seasons. Throughout his time there, he participated in 47 games over three seasons, while overcoming an injury as a sophomore. He achieved eight goals and eight assists, including two game-winning goals.
Off the field, he worked as a student assistant within the Findlay athletic department, acquiring a wealth of experience in various roles.
In 2019, he interned with the United Shore Professional Baseball League in Utica, Michigan. During his time with the league, he closely collaborated with the statistics team on multiple projects. He also led and managed the interns, creating their work schedule for the summer.
