Former Jacksonville men’s soccer captain Jack Burns returns to the team for the 2018 season, this time on the sidelines, where he will serve as a Graduate Assistant.
Burns was a four-year letter-winner for the Dolphins from 2013-16, making 55 starts in 64 appearances under Coach Ruiz. A member of the 2013 ASUN All-Freshman Team, he served as a team captain during his junior and senior seasons, helping the team to advance to the 2016 ASUN Championship Final.
He spent the 2017-18 school year as a Presidential Fellow within the Office of Jacksonville University President Tim Cost, after being selected as just one of two graduates to do so.
Off the field, Burns earned a bachelor’s degree from JU in sports business in 2017, with minors in marketing & kinesiology. He was selected as the 2017 Outstanding Student in Sports Business Management, as well as the 2017 Student of the Year within the Davis College of Business.
The Portsmouth, England native holds preview coaching experience both in the United States and oversees. He served as an Academy Coach at Portsmouth FC from 2011-12, and as an Academy Sports Performance Coach with the Jacksonville Armada for the 2017 season, working alongside former JU coach Gabriel Zapponi.
Burns is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Kinesiology from Jacksonville, and is involved in research under the guidance of Dr. Chris Robertson and Dr. Derek Mann that will focus on bridging the gap between the science and application of non-linear learning models within sports.
