Patrick Murphy joined the Jacksonville University Athletic Communications staff in October 2020. He serves as the primary media relations contact to women's basketball, softball, volleyball and beach volleyball. During his first year at JU, Murphy also served as the primary or secondary contact to women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer and men's and women's rowing. By developing a social media plan, he helped increase the followings of several sports, highlighted by 40% increases in followers for the volleyball and women's lacrosse team's Instagram accounts.Â
Prior to JU, Murphy served as the Sports Information Assistant for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. There he worked as the primary contact for men's soccer, men's golf and softball. During his time at ERAU, Murphy was recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in the 2019-20 Design Contest, as his schedule poster for men's lacrosse finished second in the College division Fall/Winter/Spring Poster category.
Before working for the Eagles, Murphy worked with the sports information office at the Missouri University of Science & Technology as a student worker for five seasons, assisting with covering home events for all 15 sports the Miners sponsor. He served as Missouri S&T's Great Lakes Valley Conference Sports Network (GLVCSN) Extra Credit Ambassador on campus to get students involved in the production of live sporting events on campus and recruit student workers to assist in covering home events. In 2016, he was a part of the camera crew that filmed the GLVC Cross Country Championships when Missouri S&T hosted the event.
Additionally, Murphy worked as the student manager and director of operations for the Missouri S&T baseball team for six seasons. His duties included coordinating meals, managing equipment and assisting with requisitions and managing the team's social media accounts in addition to other responsibilities. During his time with the program, the Miners made five trips to the GLVC Baseball Championship Tournament and in 2016 made it to the championship game of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional, winning four straight elimination games to do so as part of a record-setting 39-19 season, the best in school history.
Murphy also spent two seasons in the Northwoods League with the Wisconsin Woodchucks as a clubhouse manager and ballpark operations intern.
A native of Bartlett, Tennessee, Murphy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business & Management Systems from Missouri S&T in May of 2018 and earned a Master of Science Degree in Information Science & Technology with an emphasis in Project Management, also from Missouri S&T, in December of 2019.
