Bri McCombs Headshot 2022

Bri McCombs

Jacksonville University second year head volleyball Maggie Couture has announced the addition of Bri McCombs to the coaching staff as a graduate assistant ahead of the fall 2021 season.

“We are thrilled to have Bri join our staff and the JU family. We are always looking to surround our student-athletes with people who have her level of expertise and knowledge of what it takes to be a successful player in the ASUN,” said Couture. “She will bring a confident and positive attitude to our gym and will be someone our team can look to as we grow as a program.”

Prior to arriving in Jacksonville, McCombs spent the 2020-21 season as a volunteer assistant with the Ohio Bobcats.
McCombs also brings a wealth of coaching experience at the club level to JU, having spent time at the helm of Lexington United VBC’s 15 and 16 open teams, and as an assistant with Nashville-based Alliance VBC. She has also spent time as a camp coach at the University of Kentucky, where she led defensive skill development.

McCombs is no stranger to the ASUN Conference, having played part of her collegiate career at Lipscomb University. With the Bisons, she was an All-ASUN First Team selection in 2013 and was named Defensive Player of the Year, finishing the season with 469 digs and leading the ASUN in digs in conference play with 300. A service specialist, she also ranked in the top 10 in the conference that season with 28 service aces. In 2014, McCombs posted 505 digs and was one of four players in the league that season to reach that mark. She once again ranked near the top of the ASUN with 28 service aces while dishing out 38 assists. During her two seasons with Lipscomb, McCombs was named Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions and helped lead the Bisons to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014. In the 2014 ASUN Volleyball Championships, McCombs set a new Bisons record for digs in a five-set match, recording 35 opposite the Northern Kentucky Norse.

McCombs began her career at Middle Tennessee State University in 2012 and played one season with the Blue Raiders. She was named to the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational All-Tournament Team and was one of two players to play all 123 sets that season. McCombs led MTSU with 470 digs and was second on the team with 24 service aces, while compiling 72 assists, the third most on the team.
