Julie Darty

Jacksonville University and Chief Athletics Officer Brad Edwardsannounced the hiring of Julie Darty on April 16, 2014 to theposition of Head Volleyball Coach here at JU.
 
“We are extremely pleased to have Julie Darty join theDolphin family,” said Edwards. “She brings with her atremendous amount of charisma, energy and expertise in the world ofcollegiate volleyball. In her role at South Carolina, Julie enjoyeda very high level of responsibility, a level which is normally onlyafforded to head coaches in the SEC.”

Darty has spent the past two seasons at the University of SouthCarolina where she was the Associate Head Coach and RecruitingCoordinator for the Gamecocks. After the 2012 season, she was namedto the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) “ThirtyUnder 30” list as one of the rising stars in the coachingworld. In her time in Columbia, the Gamecocks won 30 games andposted just their second winning record in a decade during the 2012season.
 
Prior to South Carolina, Darty spent a pair of seasons atVillanova University, where the Wildcats posted back-to-backtop-four finishes in the 15-team Big East in the 2010 and 2011seasons. She got her start as an assistant coach at Lake Mary(Fla.) High School. At the same time, she helped with two clubteams in the Orlando area.
 
As a former student-athlete herself, Darty is well-familiarizedwith the Southeast and the Atlantic Sun. She holds a degree incommunications from Mercer, where she graduated in 2008. As afour-year player for the Bears, Darty earned A-Sun All-Freshmanhonors and led the team in kills per set all four years, settingthe career record in program history for that category.
