Creighton Edges Jacksonville in Series Finale, 2-1

OMAHA, Neb. – Spencer Stockton gave up just four hits and worked a career-best eight innings, and Jacksonville attempted a ninth inning rally with the tying run on third base, but was edged by No. 28 Creighton, 2-1, Sunday at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

"That was a good college baseball game and it comes doing to being able to execute in that last inning. We did a good job grinding and clawing," said JU Head Coach Tim Montez. "We're going to be in a similar situation between now and when the season ends and if these guys learn to stay together and overcome the adversity of today, then they will be in good shape come May."

Stockton also rang up six Bluejay batters to match his career high. He did not allow a base hit until the fourth inning, which included a strikeout of the side in the third. After Daniel Woodrow led off the inning with a single, he advanced to second on a balk, took third on an error by Stockton, and scored on a Ryan Fitzgerald double. Fitzgerald scored later on a Reagan Fowler sacrifice fly.

"I thought Stockton did a good job and we had great pitching all weekend. Our pitching was definitely a big positive," said Montez.

Stockton did not walk a batter and only gave up one more hit after the fourth inning but fell to 3-2.

Jacksonville (17-10) mustered five hits from five different players, and scored its only run of the game in the seventh inning on a JJ Gould double to the left field line.

The Dolphins mounted a ninth inning rally after Keith Rogalla (3-1) left with one run on four hits and no walks over eight innings. Austin Hays led the charge when he reached on a throwing error at short, then advanced to third on a Connor Stephens single. Creighton (18-6) Closer David Gerber left, then the duo of John Oltman and Connor Miller closed the door with two strikeouts and a flyout.

Up next, Jacksonville travels to face Florida Tuesday.
