DELAND, FLA – The Jacksonville University women's soccer team traveled to DeLand, Fla to face off against Stetson on Thursday night. The Dolphins (0-8-3) battled with the Hatters for a full 110 minutes of play but ended in a scoreless tie.
Senior
Kristian Shores, who is recognized as the
Hodges Mazda Player Of The Game started in goal for the Dolphins in her third consecutive appearance. Shores made 10 saves on the evening. As a team, the Dolphins rank ninth in the NCAA for saves per game at 7.50.
"Our goalkeeper Kristian came up big tonight and helped us secure the time. It was a total team effort and I am proud of the fact that we make it difficult for teams to score goals," commented Head Coach

JU recorded a total of three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes. Junior forward
Emma Vasquez recorded her the first shot in the 13
th minute. Senior midfielder
Kacie Patterson fired the second in the 23
rd minute and in the 40
th minute freshman defender
Rachel Walters took a shot that went wide. Jacksonville entered halftime knotted with Stetson in a scoreless game.
After halftime JU returned to the field with a sense of urgency to score first and recorded six more shots on goal.
Freshman forward
Olivia Abdallah took the first shot of the second half in the 53
rd minute of play but the ball went high over the hands off the Stetson keeper. Not too long after in the 57
th and 58
th minute senior forward
Danielle Henry and senior midfielder
Maya Fisher each attempted to earn the go-ahead goal for JU. Fisher returned in the 78
th minute of play with a shot that landed right in the hands off the Stetson keeper. Freshman
Shelby Brim closed out attempts in regulation for JU in the 78
th minute with a powerful shot that went wide.
Shores was able to block five shots from Stetson in the first overtime to secure another opportunity for JU as the game headed into a second overtime. Fisher and junior midfielder
Lauren Caffee both fired shots in the final seconds of play in a last attempt to win the game for Jacksonville. After a full 110 minutes Jacksonville and Stetson ended in a scoreless tie.
"We'll continue to work on our ability to commit numbers forward and capitalize on our chances. We are looking forward to the next opportunity we have to earn a win on Sunday," Busby added.
The Dolphins will round out this pair of road games on Sunday afternoon when they visit Fort Meyers to face Florida Gulf Coast University.
