GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jacksonville University baseball dropped both games of a double header Saturday at UNC Greensboro.
Â
The Dolphins (11-8) fell 5-4 in game one, and 13-3 in game two.
Â
GAME ONE
Â
JU opened up the scoring in game one, striking first in the second, when
Jacob Southern led off the inning with a double and
John Cassala followed that up with a two-bagger of his own, marking the fourth straight game that he had driven in a run.
Â
UNCG tied in the third, before Jacksonville answered back in the fourth.
Cory Garrastazu singled with one out and stole second, and with two outs,
Cory Heffron drove him in to make it 2-1.
Â
The Dolphins tacked on some insurance in the eighth, when
Dakota Julylia singled to start the frame and
Angel Camacho walked. Two outs later, Cassala delivered again with a two-RBI single to right.
Â
UNCG started the ninth with a base hit, and JU was unable to turn a double play, but got one out. A single, a walk, a passed ball and a sacrifice fly brought the Spartans within one, 4-3. Then a single tied it and a bases loaded walk allowed UNCG to win the game.
Â
GAME TWO
Â
Jacksonville drew first blood in game two as well, as Cassala singled to start the second, part of a four-hit day for him at the plate. Garrastazu drove it to right as part of a hit-and-run that scored Cassala, and he advanced to second on an error in right.
Duncan Hunter ripped a triple into the left field gap, and JU led 2-0 after two.
Â
After UNCG got one in the third, JU built the lead back to two in the fourth. With two outs, Hunter was hit by a pitch and stole second.
Ruben Someillan shot one into center to score Hunter and make it 3-1.
Â
UNCG took the lead for good with a five run sixth inning. The Spartans brought all nine men to the plate in both the sixth and eighth innings to expand the lead to 10.
Â
JU returns to UNCG Stadium tomorrow to battle the Spartans one more time, first pitch at 1 p.m.
