Jacksonville Continues to Roll with Doubleheader Sweep of Brown

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – The Jacksonville University baseball team (8-6) continued its offensive onslaught of Brown (1-8) on Saturday, winning 15-0 in the first game of the doubleheader and 6-2 in the second. Both games were shortened to seven innings.

Game One
Trent Palmer stayed hot on the mound for the Dolphins with seven scoreless innings and six strikeouts while stranding runners on third base in three innings to earn his second win of the year. Duncan Hunter hit his first homerun of the year to help propel the Dolphins to their third straight win to get the day started.

A disastrous inning for the Brown pitching staff started with 16 consecutive balls thrown by Brown starter Will Tomlinson that scored the first two runs for the Dolphins in the bottom of the 2nd. Every Dolphin in the starting lineup then proceeded to cross home plate to score in the bottom of the 2nd. On just four hits, the Dolphins managed to score twelve runs with the help of seven walks, two hit batsmen, three singles and a three run homerun by Hunter.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Cory Garrastazu singled with the bases loaded to drive in the 13th run of the game for the Dolphins. Paul Castillo singled up the middle with runners on first and second for a RBI followed by a Scott Dubrule single to give the Dolphins a, 15-0, lead in the bottom of the 6th to complete the scoring.

Game Two
The Dolphins wasted no time duplicating its success at the plate in the bottom of the first inning of game two. Ruben Someillan took a pitch off the shoulder to get things started, Angel Camacho worked a one out walk and Scott Dubrule reached on a throwing error to quickly load the bases for John Cassala who catapulted a sacrifice fly to right to score the game's first run. A throwing error on the play allowed Someillan to trot home to push JU ahead by two before the home side registered a hit. Paul Castillo later singled through to right side to leave the Dolphins with a 3-0 lead after one.

Two more runs came across in the second, both with two outs. Dakota Julylia doubled down the left field line to score Reagan Wright all the way from first. Julylia later came around to score after moving to third on a wild pitch and advancing home when Camacho reached on a throwing error. One more run came across in the fifth for Jacksonville to complete the scoring.

Brown got on the board with two runs in the top of the third of JU starter Nick Love, both unearned. Greg Shannahan came on in relief and tossed three scoreless with one strikeout while Zach Bryant came out of the pen to lock down the seventh.

This series will wrap up on Sunday at 1 p.m. A.J. Jones will toe the rubber for the Dolphins as Jacksonville looks for its fifth-straight victory.
