Dolphins Drop Game One, Game Two Moved To Noon

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball dropped game one of its series at FGCU 12-1 on Thursday night at Swanson Stadium.

The Dolphins (21-17, 7-6) managed only four hits.

JU loaded the bases in the first inning, after a one-out single by Scott Dubrule, and walks to Angel Camacho and John Cassala, but a groundout ended the threat.

The Eagles responded in the bottom half of the inning, collecting a one-out single and a walk, before a double to right off Tyler Santana (3-2) plated the first two runs of the game.

FGCU added to its lead with an advantageous third inning. A one-out single was followed by three consecutive walks to push in a run. Then a groundball to third led to a force out at second, but the Dolphins could not turn the double play to end the inning as the throw to first pulled Cassala off the bag. A two-RBI double and an RBI single drove the total to five before the inning ended, and FGCU led 5-0 after three innings.

In the fourth, JU put together a two-out rally. Reagan Wright walked, and Dakota Julylia reached on an error after Wright moved to second on a groundout. Cory Heffron lined a double down the left field line to plate Wright and cut it to 5-1.

FGCU wrapped up the scoring for the night with a five run fifth. Two singles started the frame. A groundout back to the mound advanced the lead runner to third. A sacrifice fly plated the first run of the inning, before a two-run home run and a double ended Santana's night. A solo home run made it 12-1 after five innings.

Adrian Garrastazu entered the game for Santana, and threw a career-best three innings of relief, allowing one run off three hits and striking out three. Ethan Sander got the final out of the eighth on a strikeout looking.

Jacksonville faces FGCU in game two tomorrow, with the time moved up to noon due to inclement weather in the forecast.
