Duncan-Smith Records First Career Goal In FAU Matchup

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Jacksonville University men's soccer team went on the road on Tuesday night to face Florida Atlantic University. The Dolphins (1-1-1) fell to FAU (2-1-0) by a final score of 2-1.

Both JU and FAU were looking to secure their second victory of the season tonight. "We had great moments in the game. But we have yet to complete a full 90 minute period and it cost us tonight," commented Head Coach Mauricio B. Ruiz.

The Owls opened up scoring in the 23rd minute with a goal from Ivan Mykhailenko assisted by David Schwartzman.

JU totaled four shots on goal in the first half with freshman midfielder Jake Duncan-Smith firing the first shot of the night less than one minute into play. Junior forward Jose Manzo, sophomore defender Josh Araujo-Wilson and senior midfielder/defender Redondo Beauplan each contributed one for the Dolphins.

A consistent bright spot has been sophomore goalkeeper Matt Levy. Levy, who made three saves in the first half came into the week leading the ASUN  in save percentages (.875) and saves per match (7.00). Coming into the match Levy had 15 saves combined from the first two games this season and a 1.80 goals against average.

The lone Jacksonville goal of the night came early in the second half. Duncan-Smith single handedly found the net at 47:31 to tie the game at one and record his first goal of the season and of his career.

Five more shots came from Jacksonville in the second half from freshman midfielder Mason Tunbridge, sophomore midfielder Jake Johnson, sophomore forward Inti Antunez, junior midfielder Steven Saunders, and senior forward Kai Bennett.  "We need more composure in front of the goal so we can turn those shots into goals," Ruiz added. 

Blake Dean netted one more goal for the home team in the 75th minute with an assist from Mykhailenko off a deflected shot to make the score 2-1 in favor of FAU.
 
Levy, who was recognized tonight as the Hodges Mazda Player Of The Game rounded out the night making an three additional saves in the second half . "Matt had a great performance tonight and keeps growing as a young goalkeeper," Ruiz concluded.  Levy faced a total of 16 shots on the night.

The Dolphins will return home on Saturday to host Presbyterian at Southern Oak Stadium at 6 p.m.
