Wood, James Carry Jacksonville Past Florida National

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University men's basketball team (4-2) led for 36:47 minutes on Wednesday evening inside Swisher Gymnasium opposite Florida National en route to its 78-69 victory on Day Two of the BSN Sports Dolphin Classic.

Jacksonville led by as many as 21 in the game and held off a hard charge by the Conquistadors late in the second half to come away with the victory. Diante Wood made the first start of his career and delivered in a big way with 18 points and 12 rebounds to secure the first double-double of his career. He chipped in four assists and a steal for good measure while shooting 8-13 from the floor and 2-3 from the stripe.

Dontarius James found the 20-point plateau for the second time in as many nights, notching 23 points to match Tuesday's total to go with six rebounds and two blocks. He was 4-8 from long range and 8-12 from the floor overall across 26 minutes. He's now averaging 18.3 points per game this season and has eclipsed 20-points three times. The Dolphins combined for 12, 20-point games all of last season. James is on pace for 13 such performances on his own.

Mo Arnold was big on the glass once again, pulling down seven boards and handing out three assists. The 6-2 guard is averaging 6.8 rebounds per game this season to lead the team in that category. He just two more points than rebounds so far this season.

As a team the Dolphins shot it well, 52.5 percent from the floor (31-59) while keeping Florida National to just a 37.7 percent clip. From long range Jacksonville was 8-23 (34.8 percent) while Florida National was 9-32 (28.1 percent) but the difference came at the free throw line where Jacksonville made eight freebies against FNU's five attempts.

The 2020 BSN Sports Dolphin Classic will conclude on Thursday afternoon with a 5 p.m. tip opposite New Orleans. Both teams will be playing rubber games having each split the first two games of the event. Campbell matches up with Florida National at 1 p.m.
