JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville softball played two games on the second day of the Osprey Dolphin Invite facing East Tennessee State University and Alabama A&M.
GAME ONE: ETSU
It was
Alyssa Bilodeau who started in the circle for JU. The senior went six innings without giving up a run and struck out eleven batters on the afternoon on her way to secure the 6-2 victory.
Jacksonville got to work early opening scoring in the bottom of the first. Senior
Makenzie Buss recorded the first run for the home team after Kayana Perez doubled down the left field line, allowing Buss to advance to third.
Hannah Roberts allowed Buss to reach home after advancing on a fielders choice.
The 'phins strung together two more runs in the bottom of the second. Junior
Serena Quinata advanced home after Perez singled to left field allowing three runners on base to advance. With bases loaded
Ashley Darakjian found her way home after
Kassidy Cross singled to second base.
The momentum continued in the bottom of the fourth when Buss fired a rocket to left field for a two-run home run. Darakjian scored from first on the play.
The final run of the afternoon came in the bottom of the sixth after
Jacqueline Hodskins doubled to centerfield. Victoria Rodeabaugh entered to pinch run for Hodskins and advanced home after Buss singled to shortstop.
GAME TWO: Alabama A&M
In game two Jacksonville faced Alabama A&M and came out victorious in a final score of 11-3.
This time, it was freshman
Skylar Whitty in the circle for Jacksonville. Whitty went for five innings before being relived by freshman
Cambria Arturo. While in the circle Whitty struck out five.
Hallie Kern opened scoring in game two in the bottom of the second after
Carolyn O'Neal doubled through the left side.
They dealt damage again in bottom of the third pulling together three more runs. After doubling to left field
Kassidy Cross scored when
Hannah Roberts doubled to left field. Jackie Hodskins brought in the third run of the evening after advancing home on an errant Bulldog throw.
Abby Genest closed out scoring in the third after O'Neal singled to center field to push runners around. In the bottom of the fourth Perez scored after
Abby Genest doubled to right field. O'Neal scored again in the bottom of the 5
th on a fielding error by AAMU.
The Dolphins left their mark in the bottom of the 6
th when they recorded a total of five runs to demolish the visiting Bulldogs. After Perez led off the inning tripling to right field
Hannah Roberts homered to bring the Dolphins over AAMU 8-3. O'Neal and
Hallie Kern scored after Quinata doubled to center. Darakjian doubled in her last at-bat allowing Quinata to advance home for the final run of the game.
"Any time you can win two ball games in a day it's a good day. We are still learning and missing on some of the details of the game but it sure is nice to win while we are searching." commented Head Coach

Jacksonville returns tomorrow at 11:30am for their final home game against ETSU before going on the road to Gainesville to play Florida in a midweek matchup.
