JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville softball closed out the Osprey Dolphin Invite on Sunday morning when they hosted East Tennessee University. The Dolphins improved to a 6-3 record after reigning victorious over the Buccanners in a 7-1 final.
Freshman
Skylar Whitty threw her first complete game while starting in the circle for JU. Whitty went five innings without giving up a run and struck out 12 batters in the process.

Makenzie Buss were placed on second and third with graduate student
Jacqueline Hodskins at the plate. Hodksins reached first on a fielding error by the ETSU shortstop allowing Buss to score and Roberts to move to third. After an error by the ETSU catcher Gennaro-Ferrante, who came in to pinch run for Hodskins advanced to second while Roberts scored.

The final two runs of the afternoon came in the bottom of the fourth from Buss and junior
Serena Quinata. Quinata led off the inning singling up the middle. Four balls led Buss to first base pushing Quinata to second. Senior Cassidy Cross thenwalked to load the bases for JU. Roberts singled to left field allowing Quinata to advance home. Buss reached home after a throwing error by the visiting third baseman pushed runners around.
"I am proud of the way we finished the weekend. If we want to be on the hunt at the end of the year, we have to play our best softball on Sunday's at the end of long weekends. For the second week in a row I thought we did that," commented Head Coach

Jacksonville goes on the road this week to Gainesville for a midweek matchup against Florida on Wednesday night before traveling to Mobile, Alabama next weekend for the Mardi Gras Classic.
