Dolphins Fall To #9 Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville softball (7-4) traveled to Gainesville, Florida after a 10 game home stand to play No.9 Florida (12-1) on Wednesday evening. The Dolphins fell to the Gators in five innings by a final score of 8-0.

After the Gators took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, Alyssa Bilodeau was replaced in the circle by Skylar Whitty. Whitty struck out two batters looking.

Strikeouts plagued JU's hitters early and often as nine batters in the lineup went down in that fashion.

The Dolphins were unable to record any hits but were able to place two runners on bases throughout the night. Makenzie Buss lead off the batting order for JU in the top of the first and found herself advancing to first after being hit by the first pitch Lugo tossed. Buss attempted to advance to second but was tagged out while Hannah Roberts reached first on a fielder's choice.

The Gators put up five more runs through three innings to seal their victory.

Florida's Natalie Lugo was credited with the win, pitching a no hitter for the Gators.

"It wasn't our night. We look forward to getting back in the field Friday and competing," commented Head Coach Erica Ayers.

Jacksonville will stay on the road this weekend as they head to Mobile, Alabama for the Mardi Gras Classic hosted by South Alabama.
