Dolphins Split Double Header At Day Two of Mardi Gras Invite

MOBILE, ALA- Jacksonville softball returned to the field for day two of the Mardi Gras Invite in Mobile, Alabama with a double header against Stephen F. Austin and University of Memphis

GAME ONE
Senior Alyssa Bilodeau was given the nod in game one and went six innings. Bilodeau allowed 4 hits on 4 runs.  While facing 26 batters Bilodeau put away eight swinging.  

Stephen F. Austin got on the board early scoring in the bottom of the first. Alex Hedspeth reached home on a sacrifice fly from Shaylon Govan. Govan came back to bat in the bottom of the fourth and homered to give SFA the 2-0 lead.

Jacksonville recorded three hits on the morning but was able to produce any runs as a result.

Makenzie Buss and Madison Kennedy led the Dolphins as the duo went 1 for 2 at the plate. A final push for the Dolphins came in the top of the seventh when Jacqueline Hodskins singled up the middle with Carolyn O'Neal on first base. Unable to capitalize on the moment the Dolphins took a 4-0 decision after Caroline Watson flew out to center field for the final out of the contest.
 
GAME TWO
Jacksonville knocked down University of Memphis in the afternoon by a final score of 1-0.

Skylar Whitty was the arm in action for the afternoon. On her way to pitching her third complete game she sat down five batters and only allowed two hits. Whitty improves to a 4-2 record for the season.

Jacksonville was slow to produce runs but broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning. After singling to third base and advancing on the subsequent play, Carolyn O'Neal reached home from third as a result of Serena Quinata singling to left field. Hallie Kern and O'Neal both went 1 for 3 at the plate while Quinata went 1 for 2 with one RBI.
 
"We battled at the plate all day; hits just did not fall. Fortunately, we have great pitching and defense that allowed us to pick up the win in game two.

The Dolphins will face Memphis again tomorrow morning at 10AM for the final day of the Mardi Gras Invite
