Coipel Delivers Walkoff Win Over VCU on Sunday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Christian Coipel drove in both runs, including a walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth, to push Jacksonville University baseball to a 2-1 win over VCU at John Sessions Stadium on Sunday.

The Dolphins (8-9) got excellent pitching again to set up the timely hits, as Jacksonville finished the weekend winning three of four games played in the round robin event.

Jacksonville scored first in the third inning. Ruben Someillan reached on an error to lead off the frame, stole second and went to third on a sacrifice bunt, before scoring on Coipel's opposite field base hit to put the Dolphins in front.

Austin Temple started and was consistently able to strand runners on throughout the afternoon. He left six Rams on through the first four innings, and got stronger as the game went along. He did not allow a baserunner in his final few innings of work, going a season-high 7.1 innings and retiring the final eight batters he faced.

VCU tied the game in the top of the ninth on a solo home run to right off of Chris Mauloni (1-1), before he struck out the next three batters he faced to give the Dolphins a chance in the bottom half.

Someillan had a one-out single before Dubrule reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a walk to Anthony George, before scoring the winning run when Coipel smacked a 1-2 pitch into right center to win it.
